Welcome to the new Domitor site!

Dear Domitor members, friends, early cinema aficionados, and interested passers-by,

Thank you for visiting the new Domitor site, which goes live this week on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the General Assembly at the Giornate del Cinema Muto in Pordenone, where Domitor was founded 31 years ago.

As you will see, many people have worked hard on this site, especially the Executive Committee, and our two fabulous developers, Monty George and Eric Janofski. A tremendous thanks to all!

There are lots of exciting new features on this more dynamic, and easily updatable site (powered by WordPress):

Three blogs:

Featured Research: new books, essays, and interviews with early cinema scholars and archivists—let us know if you have something to feature!

News and Events: recent announcements of interest to friends of Domitor—keep your news and updates coming to the liststerv!

Domitor Blog (this page): discussions or editorials initiated by the membership or Domitor Executive Committee

An Early Cinema Overview, which outlines the scholarly field of early cinema studies and includes a preliminary list of canonical texts in the field. Please send us your additions and suggestions! We plan to grow a much fuller list (along with other information networks) in our members-only resource and research areas.

A Members-Only side: this side of the site, which requires a username and password (see below), is an area where members can work together on early cinema projects or topics. It includes a discussion area, where members can create as many groups as they like to trade ideas, media, and/or documents; the groups can even be used to generate wiki pages or other kinds of web content. It is a very powerful site, despite its simplicity. The Collaborations page of the public site will describe projects that come out of the members side. Any given project may even end up being featured on the public side once it is ready to be published.

If you are a paid member of Domitor, you will soon receive an invitation to join the members-only area of the site.

  • Once you are in the members-only area, create your own profile, with a bio and research interests for all the other members to see. (Look to the right under “Members Menu.”)
  • Create or join a Group on any topic you wish to collaborate on.
  • Search through the Member Directory to find others to collaborate with.
  • Start working together on projects related to early cinema!

If there are any questions, please use the Contact form or feel free write to the EC directly.

Thank you for checking out our new site. Good luck and have fun!
