Gresham College Public Lecture on Early Cinema by Ian Christie

The Domitor Vice-President Ian Christie was invited at the Grisham College on April 30, 2018, to give a public lecture about the reception of the first moving picture shows (1894-96), which has been much mythologised. Were spectators really frightened of an approaching train? Did they imagine seeing their departed relatives reanimated on screen? How much attention was actually paid to this new phenomenon among so many contemporary novelties and wonders? The lecture is entitled “What Really Happened at the First Moving-Picture Shows?”
